Hidy-Ho, Subscriberino. Holy moly... Too much of The
Simpsons, if that's even possible.

Well, I received a lot of emails earlier
about last issue's knocking crappy internet marketing
newsletters, and people are asking me what newsletters I
ended up keeping, if all the others sucked so much. So, here
are some of the keeper's:

"High Rankings Advisor" by Jill Whalen -- If you have ANY
interest in SEO, subscribe immediately. Jill's
newsletter rocks the Kasbah; it is PURE content you can
turn around and use. Do her a favor though, read all her
past issues before asking a question.

"I Gotta Tell You!" by Jim Edwards -- I'm a big fan of Jim.
His ebooks are pure gold and I like his suck-eggs-if'n-you-
don't-like-it style, ala the Friday Night Smackdown with
Triumph the Insult Comic Dog's bastard son, Smacker. Pay
attention to what this guy does, it's either brilliantly
cutting-edge or really funny (often both).

"Marketing Secrets" by John Reese -- The name says it all.
He will tell you tried and tested marketing info, with
minimal fluff, and I believe he is honestly looking out for
your best interests. John Reese is "Da Man, yo" and you
should send him $5 immediately because he deserves it. Be
sure to read his past issues for gold nuggets.

Jeff Johnson -- I can't wait to buy this guy a beer. Or better yet,
pour him one of my homebrews. Jeff is a motherfuckin' genius.
I'm sure he's too humble to admit it, but I know every once in a
while he's sitting in his cushy executive lounger and can't help
but think "Damn I'm smart;" and rightly so. He doesn't have a
newsletter, per se, but he does send out top notch
recommendations and resources. Much like John Reese, I truly
believe this guy has your best interests at heart and will never
sell you just to make a buck. You can get tons of free content
(some quite advanced stuff, too) at the following website.

Yanik Silver -- Unfortunately Yanik doesn't have much of a
newsletter, but if you sign up to his mini-course you'll
get on his mailing list for product-oriented notices and
what-not. Specifically, you'll receive a "Hot Sheet" every
once in a while that tells you about various specials and
good marketing products. They are generally big-ticket
items, but they are the best of the best. Think about it,
if you are looking for a step-by-step, fully explained KEY
of internet marketing, would you find it in a $27 ebook
or $397 course? Eventually you'll figure out you need to
be getting some big ticket items to truly master a
particular aspect of internet marketing, so consider Yanik to
know which ones might be good.

I'm going to paraphrase here, because it was more of a topic
suggestion, than a straightforward question.

"What is the best process for newbies (and I do mean
newborn) to get incoming links, and is linking software
worth messing with?"

Links are very, very important and you should get as
many as you can -- minding these few guidelines:

- ACTUALLY link back if it's required. Seriously, only assholes fake
reciprocal links with javascript and uncrawlable link pages.
Dedicate one link off your homepage to your link directory;
you don't need to link to it from every page.

- DON'T link with gambling, porn and FFA sites (called
"bad neighborhoods" by the engines). It's okay if they link
to you, but if you link to them the search engines will
consider your site part of that "bad neighborhood" and
possibly remove or reduce ranking.

- DON'T give a second thought to pagerank. It's a big distraction.

- DO link to any willing site (minus bad neighborhoods).
Links from sites in your own category may be better, but
ones outside of the category sure as hell don't hurt. A link
is a link is a link (minus bad neighborhoods).

- DON'T call your links pages "links," call them
"resources" or "suggestions" or whathaveyou.

- Your site won't ever be crawled by the major search
engines unless it has incoming links. Submitting to search
engines is a waste of time.

Knowing that, go to Google and search for the following:
allintitle: links OR add OR submit "keyword"

Change the word "keyword" to your desired category, and
leave the quotes there.

As far as linking software? Link Management software is
great, but Link Gathering software is a waste of money.

For link management, there's no reason to get fancy or even
spend money.

Here is a free link management script, highly recommended.
But please take heed, I strongly suggest you turn off the
feature to fully automate the linking process and manually
accept/decline links. Otherwise, anyone in a "bad
neighborhood" could swap links without you knowing it and
your site will suffer in ranking.

Now, for link gathering programs like Arelis and Zeus, stay
away from them.

I bought the Pro version of Arelis, and wish I never had.
Emailing everyone and their brother is the worst way to get
links. These link gathering softwares are very expensive,
highly ineffective, often cumbersome and still result in a
very manual process.

Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's the Marketing Plan
Part 1: Web Hosting

No serious netreprenuer will ever have only one website. No
matter what the website is, you will need others to feed
that main one, set up side projects, etc. I own hundreds upon hundreds of
domains and, quite literally, add more on a regular basis.

But let me be more specific about my intentions, for this
marketing plan we are walking through the process of

tangible items you ship, or membership sites. If you are
interested in one of those, this process will still t.each
you a lot, but not everything will be applicable.

To continue: You will need a BUNCH of websites, and
preferably 1 place to manage all of them.

Your solution is reseller hosting. These are web hosting
packages intended for people who are starting up their own
web hosting company. When you sign up, you have the ability
to host unlimited domains and each domain has its own
hosting package under your control.

This is a screenshot of the master control panel. Each line
is a separate domain, and the icon circled is a link to go
to each domains individual control panel.

You decide how much webspace and bandwidth to allot to each
domain, and can host unlimited domains until you've
allotted all of the webspace and bandwidth. Then you'd just
upgrade the package to have more webspace and bandwidth
available.

The webhost I STRONGLY recommend is HostGator. For only
$24.95 a month you will have enough webspace and bandwidth
to host 50 to 250 websites depending on what you are doing with them.
And by the time you have that many websites up, you'll be making
enough money that upgrading
to a bigger package will be chump change.

I've used these guys for a long time, and I've NEVER had
trouble. Their tech support is 24/7 (yep, I've gotten
replies within the hour at 3:00am) and they are my #1
choice.
